Anna Dlugosch
MScAnna Dlugosch is a PhD student at the LBI-NVPM, where her research is under the supervision of Melanie Schürz. Her research is conducted in close collaboration with the European Rare Disease Research Alliance (ERDERA), an EU-funded initiative dedicated to advancing the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases. Her project is part of a work package focused on developing novel mRNA and gene-editing therapies using advanced drug delivery strategies, including extracellular vesicles, next-generation lipid nanoparticles, and biohybrids. A major challenge in the field is still to overcome the extra- and intracellular barriers that limit efficient intracellular cargo delivery by these nanoparticles. Her project therefore aims to deepen the mechanistic understanding of endosomal escape and intracellular cargo release. To achieve this, she investigates the subcellular trafficking and localization of vesicular components using advanced cell fractionation techniques, targeted genetic and pharmacological screens, and molecular imaging approaches.
Before joining the institute, she completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biology at the University of Regensburg, Germany, with a focus on molecular genetics, RNA biochemistry, and molecular human biology.
