Andreas Marl

MSc

Andreas Marl is a Research Assistant at the LBI-NVPM, where he focuses on cryo-TEM imaging of EVs and the establishment of immunogold labeling approaches for cryo-electron microscopy. In addition, he works on the isolation and physicochemical characterization of extracellular vesicles from different sources, focusing on developing and optimizing isolation workflows and analytical processes for EV research, including the implementation, standardization, and refinement of methodologies for EV-characterization, providing insights into their physicochemical properties.

He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology in 2021 at the University of Salzburg in Nicole Meisner-Kober’s research group, focusing on the isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles from honey. He subsequently completed a Master’s degree in Medical Biology with a thesis on the isolation and physicochemical characterization of EVs from a wide range of food-derived sources.

In 2024, Andi joined an FFG-funded consortium (BioMatTEM project), a collaboration between the NMK lab and Simone Prokant’s group at the Chemistry and Physics of Materials Facility of PLUS, as a research associate. His work focuses on developing standard operating procedures for high-resolution cryo-TEM imaging of beam-sensitive samples, particularly extracellular vesicles, at the new TEM facility at the University of Salzburg in Itzling towards atomic identification using techniques such as EFTEM.
